(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 18, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Chinese companies have begun to utilize the use of social media by their employees to pinpoint what the right person for particular work.
The information is gathered from the employees social media usage during work hours, as the company finds it is better to gather such information through the social online interaction of employees, rather than deny them the access to such sites at work.
“You should know what your employees are talking about — whether they are complaints or nice things about a company — through social media,” says Anusha Shetty, CEO of Bangalore-based advertising and communication agency Autumn Worldwide, at a recent HR seminar in Chennai. Employees are the company’s “brand ambassadors,” she says.
Shetty stated that younger employees often access sites via their phones, even if companies attempt to prevent access at work.
Thus, she says: “See the opportunities” of growing use of social media instead of trying to block them at work.
The total number of those using the internet in India is expanding at a high rate, with 65 million individuals actively using Facebook. There are over 15 million who use professional social network sites such as LinkedIn, which makes it one of the largest global markets.
Shetty says that social media helps the HR professionals improve the activities of hiring and personnel checks for proper professionals about a candidate through references posted on social media.
Social media undoubtedly creates a large platform wherein employees can easily and casually brainstorm and group-source concepts and ideas, Shetty adds.
“Social media-based platforms enable people in an organization to connect with each other, creating a sense of identity and belonging,” he says. Employees “can discuss, share, generate ideas and thoughts, collaborate across silos, locations, levels in real time and draw from the collective wisdom available within the employee community.”
