Yahoo Beating Google in Stock Market Showing reports SEO Toy

(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 28, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Although market continues to shrink, Yahoo is outperforming Google in one place that its shareholders care about most, stock price.

Following a worse than expected earnings announcement from Google in mid-October, Yahoo prices have surged in the weeks since. Yahoo's stock is closing in on $20 per share, which is up almost 20 percent for the year while Google's stock price is stagnant at around $700 per share, up about 3 percent for 2012.

Although Google, the Cupertino, Calif. Search giant continues to crush the competition in both profits and market share, fans of Yahoo can take heart in this small victory.

"Yahoo had a solid third quarter, and we are encouraged by the stabilization in search and display revenue," said Marissa Mayer, Yahoo's CEO, who previously was an executive with Google. "We're taking important steps to position Yahoo! for long-term success, and we're confident that our focus on quality and improving the user experience will drive increased value for our advertisers, partners and shareholders."

The news is not all good for the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Yahoo. The search engine company, which has been struggling to stay relevant for a number of years, has seen it market share of the search engine market drop to 12.2 percent as of November.

Additionally, Yahoo has a number of monetization issues related to the joint search agreement struck with Microsoft in 2009 that still has approximately seven years left. Those issues include the fact that Microsoft retains a revenue share of 12 percent of the net (after traffic acquisition costs) search revenue generated on Yahoo properties and affiliate sites in transitioned markets.

In spite of this, Yahoo still managed to show significant earnings growth during the just-finished third quarter.

In recent months, Yahoo has struck content deals with media brands such as ABC Television Group, Clear Channel, CNBC, NBC Sports Group, and Spotify.

The deal with NBC Sports will allow content (both online and television) to be shared between both groups, adding additional avenues for Yahoo Sports News to appear. The NBC Sports Group includes NBCSports.com, NBC Sports Regional Networks, Golf Channel.com, Rotoworld.com, Allisports.com, and Rivals Network.
