Traffic Fatalities in Arizona on the Rise Warns Phillips Law Group

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 20, 2013 ) PHOENIX, AZ – A newly released report from the National Safety Council indicates an increase in the number of traffic fatalities in Arizona. While a number of different factors may contribute to an Arizona auto accident, distracted driving has continued to be a serious issue throughout the state. In response to the rising number of Arizona traffic fatalities, the state has begun to discuss the possibility of implementing statewide distracted driving ban. As of now, Arizona only maintains a distracted driving ban for school bus drivers.

In a study conducted by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), it was reported that approximately 80 percent of auto accidents and about 65 percent of near-accidents happened within three seconds of some type of driver distraction. Clearly, the likelihood of a motor vehicle collision is greatly increased when the operator of the vehicle is distracted.

While texting and driving is legal in certain parts of Arizona, in Phoenix, there is a city-wide ban on texting while driving. If a driver is found guilty of texting and driving and causes a car accident, they can be fined up to $250. Proving negligence in a typical auto accident case can be hard; proving that texting while driving caused an auto accident can be even more difficult. One of our experienced Arizona car accident lawyers can help prove that negligence and increase the chances of you receiving a favorable outcome for your personal injury lawsuit.
