According to the infographic, 2.5% of all U.S. Employees consider their primary place of work home. That number does not include the self-employed who may utilize the ability to work from home, meaning the total could explode in the coming years. The growth of the sector has been impressive, with a 73% increase of multiple-days-per-week employees telecommunicating since 2005.
This means there are 20 to 30 million Americans that work from their homes at least one day out of the week or on the go, according to HubStaff's infographic. Nearly half of those individuals are mobile workers who are on varied business trips. Another 10-15 million are situated at home primarily over any other work environment. Of those 10 million, three million are situated as full-time employees for their respective companies.
HubStaff.com's infographic notes WorldatWork statistics estimate over 15 million individuals work from their homes at least once per month, and this number is set to increase. The trend appears ready to continue as over 4.3% growth has been seen across all workforces, which does not even include the self-employed.
The infographic points out Federal employees in particular have seen the highest amount of growth, at nearly 425% over the last few years, while State positions have grown by 114%, and Not-for-Profit rose by 85% overall. Local Government and For-Profit employees also saw an increase in overall telecommuting positions.
