Gambling Board Warns About Increased Gambling for AFCON Tournaments reports Bang The Book

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 11, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- The national Gambling Board (NGB) expressed its thankfulness toward the South Africa for its willingness to host the AFCON, which is one of the most prestigious soccer tournaments in the entirety of Africa. For the gambling community, the tournament presents a true opportunity to increase profits across the board, since as more soccer lovers are moving toward sports betting. The increase in tax gambling revenue during the event is likely to be on the rise.

“Whilst, we are excited about hosting an event of this magnitude, as the board, we would like to caution the public to bet with licensed operators and avoid taking bets with unscrupulous operators. This will ensure that they don't lose their money unnecessarily through gambling.”

With the AFCON soccer tournament taking place in South Africa, betting has thus increased dramatically. The board has thus looked to start a campaign to raise an awareness of the dangers that are related to the gambling during the soccer tournament that will end on February 10.

The NGB Chief Executive Officer Baby Tyawa stated that the continental soccer event has people who tend to divert an excess of spending toward gambling.

Tyawa said of the situation, "While sport betting is legal those gambling still need to ensure that they use reputable organizations and be on the lookout for those companies that may be involved in illegal activities."

She continued by saying: “Let me hasten to indicate that we tend to receive lots of complains about unfair play or betting during this period and that mainly stems as result of failure by the public not to familiarize themselves with rules of betting. Like any other activity, gambling has rules and would like to call upon those participating to familiarize themselves.”

Tyawa noted that from 2011to current, bookmakers increased their share of the market to 37% from 33% in 2010. She noted that the figures would have increased further up to 2012, and even more so presently given the announcement of the South African hosting of AFCON 2013.

"This can largely be attributed to the considerable growth in sports betting, with the contribution of sports betting to total betting Gross Gambling Revenue (GGR) doubling over the last two years to 2011," she said.
