Survey Notes Dangerous Driving Music reports Blitz Beats

(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 24, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Everyone knows that music can change a person's mood. Whether it is a happy song that makes you want to dance, or a sad song that puts you into a thoughtful and philosophical daze, tone and rhythm can directly affect your mood. According to a new study done, there are also particular songs that can affect your mood to the point of dangerous behavior when it comes to being behind the wheel.

The new insurance comparison taken by Confused.com has compiled the 10 worst offenders when tit comes to helping create the worst driving.

The company asked eight willing participants to drive 250 miles without music, followed by an equal number of miles with music. Confused.com added a MotorMate mobile phone application, which monitored speed, acceleration and braking. By utilizing the device, the company was able to note the songs that encouraged dangerous driving behaviors.

Hey Mama by the placed eyed Peas turned out to the of the most dangerous songs, alone with Dead on Arrival by Fall Out Boy in second place. Paper Planes by M.I.A fell into third place. Off the beaten path, Ray Charles' Hit the Road, Jack made an aptly named appearance in the seven spot, while Young, Wild, and Free by Snoop Lion finished off the top 10.

The study found that the female drive would drive more aggressively when listening to hip-hop, and would accelerate faster, accompanied by last-second breaking, more often. Heavy metal caused males to drive faster than others. It appeared that even classical music caused drivers to be more irresponsible behind the wheel compared to having no music at all.

"Music that is noisy, upbeat and increases your heart rate is a deadly mix," London University psychologist Dr. Simon Moore explained. "Fast beats can cause excitement and arousal that can lead people to concentrate more on the music than on the road.

"In addition, a fast tempo can cause people to subconsciously speed up to match the beat of the song. Also, listening to music you donÂ’t like can cause stress and distraction and this also negatively affects driving," he added.
