Jane Fonda Still Trying to Keep the World Fit with new Yoga DVD reports MindBodyGreen

(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 12, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Actress and political activist Jane Fonda has released a new yoga DVD designed as a "fun and easy" way to keep fit.

Fonda, who developed an enormous following in the 1980s through a series of workout videos, including the "Jane Fonda Workout," that was released in 1982 and went on to sell more than 17 million copies.

The 75-year-old actress, known for her starring roles in "Nine to Five," "On Golden Pond," and "Monster-in-Law," as well as Academy Award-winning roles in "Klute" and "Coming Home," has admitted to slowing down since her fitness heyday, saying Fonda that age is now catching up to, causing her to adjust her workout routines.

"I used to be all about going for the pain," Fonda said in an interview with the London Daily Mail.

Fonda guru said that generation of women who worked out to exercise programs in the 1980s were supposed feel the agony, not just the burn, from their workouts.

"Not anymore," Fonda said. "I'm not asking them to do anything too hard. I do them (the exercises) with older people in mind. I want it to be fun and easy for them, but effective."

Over the years, an additional factor that has led to Fonda slowing down is joint pain caused by osteoarthritis.

In recent years, the actress has had to have a knee and a hip replaced. She underwent back surgery in March and is still in recovery mode.

Fonda was once able to do two hours of strenuous yoga daily, but says "those days are long gone. It got to be too hard."

In her new DVD that targets seniors and other people who are out of shape, Fonda makes the exercises less strenuous. As a result, the exercises focuses more on light stretches to improve mobility. These exercise focus on the abdominal and back muscles, poses and strength training for relaxation and mobility.

Fonda has broken down the yoga program into five segments that are no longer than 20- minutes in length, three for morning workouts and two for evening workouts.
