Idea of Online Future for Universities Get Thumbs Up from Administrators reports Galoor

(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 13, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- For University and College costs to fall in the United States, they are going to need to finally embrace online learning as a standard and regulated tool for teaching its undergraduates. In order for that to happen, there needs to be a way for faculty members to get on board with the idea, but a persistent trend of concern regarding job-loss likely persists.

Unfortunately, many still see the ability to have online schooling as a regular and widspread use of schooling a bit of a ways off. Babson Survey Research Group released its latest poll that tracked the attitudes about online education within academia. Just as other studies within recent reays, the evidence of a wide split between the administrators and educators is apparent. Administrators see the future as paying less people for equal output. Teachers see it as the administration attempting to remove their jobs... which they are.

Babson surveyed the chief academic officers at over 2,800 institutions. The study included everywhere from for-profit to community colleges. The study expressed that 69% of the academic leaders of interviewed leaders noted online learning as being “critical” for long-term plans for the school. That number continues an upward trend in the survey.

From the administrator's perspective, students are asking for more online classes, and so they believe it is something for the future. That, and the ability to have one teacher teach more classes with the same pay is also considerably more enticing.

That suspect future is exactly way professors seem to be heavily on the fence about the issue. Only 32% of academic officer stated that they felt their faculty “accepted the value and legitimacy of online education.” That figure has remained someone steady for the past decade. A vast majority of teachers seem to be biting their tongue and staying “neutral” on the issue.
